Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim is a German-American art dealer, curator, and gallery founder. He is best known as founder of HG Contemporary in New York and Europe, and more recently founder of The Sphere Gallery in Laguna Beach, California.
Early life and education
Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim was born in France (if verified). He spent part of his upbringing in Europe, including Germany and France. In interviews, he has described early exposure to art through his grandmother and mother, both avid collectors.[1] He attended business studies at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, as reported in media interviews.[2] Before entering the art world, he worked in finance for Ernst & Young and the Hyatt Corporation.[3]
Career
HG Contemporary
In 2014, Hoerle-Guggenheim established HG Contemporary, a gallery with locations in New York, Madrid, and Napa Valley, among other markets.[4] Under his leadership, HG Contemporary has represented and shown artists such as RETNA, Zurab Tsereteli, Natvar Bhavsar, and Jason Dussault.[5] The gallery has positioned itself in the global market, serving institutional and private collectors.[6]
The Sphere Gallery
In September 2025, Hoerle-Guggenheim launched The Sphere Gallery in Laguna Beach, California, expanding his gallery brand into the California art scene.[7] The gallery presents contemporary artists—both established and emerging—with an emphasis on international reach.[8]
Other roles and public activity
Hoerle-Guggenheim serves as a board member of Elevate New York, a nonprofit organization focused on youth education and arts programs.[9] He has given talks on the relationship between art and technology, including a video titled The Art Market: Today and Tomorrow.[10] In interviews, he has noted that his background in finance informs his approach to gallery operations.[11]
