Born in 1987, Philipp Johann Thimm has etched his name as an illustrious multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer, and composer, with Berlin serving as the epicentre of his creative endeavours.

Life

Thimm's musical odyssey began under the tutelage of Hans-Peter Schulz, a maestro in the realm of New Music. By 15, he was an integral part of Schulz's ensemble, notably contributing to the premiere recording of "Voice, Books and Fire 3" by Jakob Ullmann. His academic pursuits led him to the Leopold-Mozart-Konservatorium in Augsburg in 2005, where he delved into cello studies. By 2007, he was honing his electric guitar skills at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg, under the guidance of Peter Wölpl and Michael Kosho Koschorrek.

Thimm's student years were marked by collaborations with renowned artists like Jonah Matranga, Jon Lord, The Album Leaf, and Get Well Soon. 2009 saw him co-founding the alternative band Abby, which garnered acclaim with several EPs and LPs under Universal Music/Island Records.

Relocating to Berlin in 2010, Thimm's versatility shone as he wore multiple hats - from a studio instrumentalist to a producer and arranger. His collaborations read like a who's who of the music industry, including names like David Lemaitre, Ellen Allien, Moderat, and Wallis Bird.

From 2011, Thimm's association with PC Nackt and Apparat (Sascha Ring) further solidified his reputation. Their combined genius birthed soundtracks that resonated across theatres and films, with the 2019 album "LP5" being a notable highlight, earning a Grammy nomination and the VUT-Indie Award. Their score for "Capri Revolution" (2018) fetched them multiple accolades, including the prestigious David-di-Donatello-Prize.

While Thimm's collaborations have been noteworthy, 2023 marks a significant milestone in his career. Drawing inspiration from family and friends, he has crafted twelve tracks for his debut solo album. Titled "Birds Singing Till The World Ends", this highly anticipated album was released on September 8, 2023.
