Petter Sivlér (born 1985) is a Swedish entrepreneur, innovator, and film producer. He is best known as the inventor of the biosynthetic epidermal skin substitute Epiprotect and as co-founder and CEO of the medical technology company S2Medical AB (publ). Sivlér grew up in Gammelstad, outside of Luleå, Sweden.

Career

Medical Innovations

While working with colleagues at Linköping University, Sivlér co-developed Epiprotect, a biosynthetic epidermal skin substitute made from nanocellulose. Designed to mimic the structure of human skin, the material is used for the treatment of burn wounds and chronic ulcers. Clinical studies, including those published in Advances in Wound Care, have shown that Epiprotect reduces pain, accelerates healing, and minimizes the need for dressing changes.[1] The innovation has been featured in major Swedish media including Sveriges Radio,[2] SVT Nyheter,[3] MedTech Magazine,[4] and Affärsliv NT.[5]

Epiprotect has been adopted as a standard treatment at facilities such as Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust in the United Kingdom, and is in clinical use across the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and at Al Jalila Children's Hospital in Dubai.[6] In 2024, the technology behind Epiprotect was acquired for global distribution by ABENA, a major family-owned European supplier of healthcare and hygiene products.

S2Clinic

In 2018, Sivlér and Mårten Skog founded S2Clinic in Linköping, Sweden — the world's first clinic offering a guaranteed healing program for chronic wounds. Patients received a full refund if their wounds did not heal. The clinic's methods, based on innovations such as Epiprotect, attracted media attention.[7]

Biotechnology: Eyracure

Sivlér also co-founded Eyracure, a biotechnology company that developed BioLAP-20®, a UV-activated molecule used for hair repair treatments. Eyracure’s products won awards at Stockholm Beauty Week 2022, including "Best Hair Treatment" and "Best Conditioner".[8][9] The company also attracted investment from the beauty retailer Lyko.[10]

Public Listing and Investor Attention

In 2018, S2Medical AB went public and was listed on the Nordic Growth Market (NGM) stock exchange. The company attracted significant investor interest, including an investment by renowned Swedish criminologist and author Leif GW Persson. Persson’s later sale of his shares received media coverage and briefly affected the company's stock price.[11]

Public Health Engagement

Early in his career, Sivlér co-initiated Sweden’s Vision Zero for Suicide (Swedish: Nollvision för självmord) together with Jonas Grafström. Their joint proposal, first published as an opinion article in Kristianstadsbladet in January 2005,[12] later influenced the Swedish government's adoption of an official suicide prevention strategy in 2008.

Film and Entertainment

At the age of seven, Sivlér appeared as an extra in the Swedish film Kärlekens himmelska helvete (2002), directed by Christina Olofson. The film starred prominent Swedish actors such as Krister Henriksson, Pernilla August, Thomas Hanzon, Görel Crona, and Dan Ekborg.

Later, Sivlér served as executive producer and actor in the feature film Charlie and the Boys (2023), a Swedish-Nigerian heist movie. The film features Nollywood actors including Kanayo O. Kanayo, Lantana Ahmed, Seun Ajayi, and Erica Bale. Charlie and the Boys was distributed internationally and is available in-flight on Air France and via the streaming platform Showmax.[13]

Publications

Several scientific studies relating to Sivlér's innovations, especially the clinical use of Epiprotect, have been published and indexed on PubMed. Research has been conducted and published from Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Egypt, documenting Epiprotect's efficacy in promoting wound healing, reducing pain, and minimizing dressing changes.[14] Media coverage on the research has appeared in Life Science Sweden.[15]
