Perth Museum is a museum which is set to open in 2024. The museum is to be housed within Perth City Hall and 'will showcase the city’s important collections to tell the tale of Scotland through the prism of Perth,' the former capital of Scotland.[1]

The centrepiece of the museum will be the Stone of Destiny.

History

In 2005 Perth City Hall closed as a music hall upon the opening of Perth Concert Hall.

With plans to demolish the building rejected, it was announced that it would be redeveloped to contain a museum.

In January 2019 BAM Construction began work on a £30 million programme of works to convert the city hall into a new heritage and arts attraction based on a design by Mecanoo.[2][3] The new attraction will incorporate displays on the Stone of Destiny and the Kingdom of Alba.[4]

In December 2020, the Scottish Government announced that the Stone of Destiny would be relocated to the museum by 2024.[5]

A competition to name the building's forthcoming museum section was launched in March 2022,[6] with the winning name being "Perth Museum", with 60% of the votes.[7]
