Biography

Early life

Pavel Tio was born on May 20, 1963 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, into a family of power engineers. In 1985 he graduated from the Tashkent State Technical University, majoring in thermal power plants. After that, he got a job at Uzbekgidroproekt as a power engineer.[3]

In 1990s he worked as a trader. [3]

Capital Group

In 1993 he became a shareholder in the construction company Capital Group, with Vladislav Doronin and Eduard Berman. Capital Group is one of the few major Russian real estate companies since the 1990s that avoided bankruptcy or a radical change of ownership. The 2007-2008 financial crisis sharply changed the whole market: sales stopped, and the developers could not pay their multimillion-dollar loans. Pavel Tio has made a series of transformations to restructure the $700 million debt and put the company out of crisis.[6]

In 2016 he became the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Capital Group.[2] Since then, Pavel Te has almost doubled the company's revenue to 71 billion rubles.[7]

Other ventures

In 2016, Pavel Tio was an investor in a project to develop one of the famous "book"-house on New Arbat Avenue in Moscow, and Capital Group was the developer.[8]

In 2017, Pavel Tio sold the Stolichniye Apteki Moscow-based pharmacy chain. He bought the chain in 2016 for 5.67 billion rubles.[9]

Controversy

Snow Leopard

In 2015, Pavel Tio was suspected of killing a snow leopard on the territory of Kyrgyzstan. The Ministry of Natural Resources sent a request to the Prosecutor General's Office to verify information this information. According to K-News agency the Kyrgyz authorities did not investigate the case.[10][11][12]

Personal life

Cho Myung-hee (1894 — 1938) — grandfather on his father's side, Korean writer, on April 15, 1938 he was sentenced to execution on charges of betraying the interests of the Soviet people and spying for Japan, and was shot on May 11.[13][14][15]
