Paula Span is an American reporter, columnist, author and journalism instructor.

Career

Span writes the "New Old Age" column for the New York Times,[1] which covers the challenges of aging and caregiving. Her columns have focused on a variety of subjects, including ageism, nursing homes, Social Security, hospice care and dementia. She previously spent 16 years writing for the Washington Post.[2] Span is the author of “The Bubbe Diaries" and “When the Times Comes: Families With Aging Parents Share Their Struggles and Solutions."[3] She teaches reporting and profile writing at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She is a graduate of Boston University. [4]

Personal life

Span lives in Montclair, New Jersey.[5] She was formerly married to journalist Jon Katz, with whom she has a daughter.[6]
