Paul Tucker (born 12 August 1968, London) is a British musician, songwriter and record producer who is best known as the keyboardist and principal lyricist for the pop duo Lighthouse Family.
Biography
Tucker was born in Crystal Palace, London in 1968.[1] He studied for a degree in French and German at the Newcastle University but became involved in music production at a house music club called Walker’s in Newcastle.[2] During his time at college, Tucker wrote Ocean Drive (Lighthouse Family song) which would later become one of the Lighthouse Family's best known songs, and began placing advertisements for a singer.[2] Tucker and Baiyewu had worked in a bar together, and Tucker later claimed a DJ friend of his recommended Baiyewu as a singer. After Baiyewu sang Ocean Drive at an audition, they decided to form a pop group based on the strength of his performance.[3][2] After submitting a number of demos to record companies[4] a demo of "Ocean Drive" attracted the attention of Polydor Records A&R director Colin Barlow, who, in 1993, signed the band to a six-month Artist development deal.[5] The group's debut album Ocean Drive (album) became a commercial success.[6] Tucker also penned some of the duo's best known singles, including "Lifted (Lighthouse Family song)|Lifted", "Lost in Space (Lighthouse Family song)", "Raincloud (song)" and "High (Lighthouse Family song)." In 2003, Tucker joined the Newcastle based rock band The Orange Lights and performed on their debut album Life Is Still Beautiful.[7][1][8] In 2010, Tucker conformed that he had rejoined the Lighthouse Family.[9]
