Paul Miano is an American Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Administrator. In December 2025, he was appointed Chief of New York City Fire Department Bureau of EMS.[1] [2]

Early life and education

Miano was born in 1977 and raised in Brooklyn and Staten Island. He graduated from Monsignor Farrell High School. Then went on to earn an undergraduate degree from the Metropolitan College of New York. Miano later completed a master's degree in Security Studies at the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security.[3]

Career

Miano began his career with the Fire Department of the City of New York in 1999 as an Emergency Medical Technician. He became a Paramedic in 2001.[4]

He is the 8th Chief of EMS since the merger between the FDNY and NYC EMS Heath and Hospitals in 1996[5] and the first member of FDNY EMS to hold every rank from EMT through 4-Star Chief. Miano spent a significant portion of his career on assignments related to Special Operations and Hazardous Materials response.[6]

New York City Fire Commissioner Robert S. Tucker appointed Miano as Chief of Emergency Medical Service Operations. In that role, he is responsible for overseeing citywide EMS operations, including over 4,000 EMTs and Paramedics, as well as planning.[7]

Media appearances

In 2007, Miano appeared as a contestant on the television game show Wheel of Fortune (American game show) during the program's Heroes Week, which featured public safety professionals. His appearance was noted by the trade publication Journal of Emergency Medical Services.[8]
