Paul Corliss is an American musician, marketing executive and media personality. Based in Austin, Texas, Corliss earned critical acclaim for his 2022 debut album of original music, Glow, as well as for his 2024 trio of single releases, collectively titled the Travels, Travails, and Triumphs Trilogy.[1] Corliss writes songs in the Americana genre that sometimes lean country and other times sound more rock and roll, with several popular tracks – including 2022's Daughter Song, 2023's Chicago Feels and 2024's Headed West –earning more than 100,000 streams apiece on Spotify.[2] Prior to moving to Austin, Corliss founded and fronted Bandolero, a Dallas-based band influenced by the Grateful Dead that drew attention for its principled stand against discrimination and its efforts to turn controversy into community impact — including organizing a benefit show for HIV prevention at a venue the band once boycotted.[3]

Career in Sports, Media and Higher Education

Corliss has had a well-rounded career outside of music working in professional sports, media and higher education. Corliss began his professional career working in communications and community affairs with the New Orleans Saints and helped lead the organization's strategic communications efforts following Hurricane Katrina in 2005[4]. He also spent several years leading communications for NASCAR's Phoenix International Raceway and as Vice President of Communications and Marketing for the National Basketball Retired Players Association, the NBA's official alumni organization.[5] Corliss continues to represent high-profile athletes through his agency, Grizzly Sports & Entertainment Marketing, including securing an international Gatorade commercial for NBA Hall of Famer George Gervin alongside Dwyane Wade in 2016.[6]

Citing a desire to spend more time with his family, Corliss left his full-time job in sports to join the University of North Texas System as Vice Chancellor in 2015.[7] While at UNT, he co-hosted a podcast for the Dallas Morning News titled the Deep Side of Dallas that explored local perspectives on politics, business, education, culture, race and sports across North Texas. [8] Launched in 2021, the debut episode featured guest Dr. George Keaton, historian and Executive Director of Remembering Black Dallas, Inc., for a personal perspective of Dallas' troubling racial history from lynchings to the powerful influence of the KKK in the early 20th century.[9]Corliss joined the University of Texas System in 2022 and today serves as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.

Education

Corliss holds a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from Texas Christian University and a master's degree in organizational leadership and administration from Concordia University of Wisconsin.
