Pamela Kosh (aka Pamela K. Gilmore) (March 13, 1930 - May 4, 2022) was a British-American character actress and former stage actress and model who had a successful career in television for over forty years (between the 1980s and 2010s).[1][2]
Early life and career
She was born on March 13, 1930, in Crayford in Kent and began her career in several repertory theatres in her native United Kingdom.[3]
Immigrating to the United States of America in 1960, she worked as both a stage actress and magazine model. She lived in Boston, Massachusetts and Miami, Florida before settling in Los Angeles, California.[4]. She became a naturalized American citizen in 1968[5]; in that same year, she married stage actor Walter "Walt" Gilmore[5] (whom she met in 1967 while she and he were performing in a play together in a local theatre situated in Southern California)[4]. Between 1973 and 1981, she and her husband both established and the managed the now defunct Golden Mall Playhouse, which during its tenue was located in Burbank, California[4]
Career
From 1985 to 2017, she became a prolific character actress often portraying socialites, matriarchs, school-teachers, and neighbors; some of her appearances include roles in such sitcoms as Murder, She Wrote, Hotel, ER, Charmed, The King of Queens, Frasier, Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, Northern Exposure, Mama's Family, My Name is Earl, Monk, Dynasty, Matlock, Days of Our Lives, and Saved By the Bell.[6][7]
On Saved by the Bell she was known as the near-deaf "batty and British" Mrs. Simpson and also appeared in the pilot for Saved by the Bell: The New Class.[8] In Frasier she played romance novelist Dierdre Sauvage, who was besotted by Martin Crane.[6]
Later life and death
It was first reported that she died on October 21, 2020, but at least one of these reports was removed and subsequent sources indicate she actually died two years later on May 4, 2022.[1][2] She died from natural causes at the age of 93 at her home in Tucson, Arizona.[2]
