Pamela de Lourdes Hodar Alba (born 28 August 1952) is a Chilean journalist.

From 1986 to 1990, she co-animated the Viña del Mar International Song Festival.[1][2][3][4] Also, she was the woman with the highest number of participations in that event. Similarly, she presented the OTI Festival in 1986 as well as the Miss Chile contest in 1987.

Biography

Early life

Hodar did her studies in Music Pedagogy at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV), from which later graduated as a journalist.

TV career

She began her television career in the 1970s as a host of the UCV Television program Música, Música, together with teacher Izidor Handler. Then, she moved to Santiago, where she was hired in 1981 to read the weather on the Teleonce channel. The following year, she assumed the morning news reading on Panorama, also from the same station.

She takes the big leap when was called to work on Televisión Nacional de Chile (TVN) to read the central newscast of that channel: 60 Minutos. Similarly, she animated the Chilean preselection for the Organización de Telecomunicaciones de Iberoamérica, together with Jorge Rencoret.

In 1986, Hodar achieved a great goal in her career when was appointed to take charge of the co-animation of the Viña del Mar International Song Festival. In that position she remained until 1990, being the woman with the highest number of appearances in said event. Also, she presented, together with César Antonio Santis, the international edition of the 1986 OTI Festival, as well as the presentation of 1987 Miss Chile.

In 1991, she left TVN and, with it, undertakes a definitive retirement from television screens, except for a brief interval in the mid-1990s.

Political career

From 2004 to 2008, she was a councilor for Concón. Similarly, from 2008 to 2021, she was a councilor for Vina del Mar representing the Independent Democratic Union party (UDI).

Personal life

She married military man Juan Arenas, with whom she had Gonzalo Arenas –former UDI deputy– and Soledad Arenas, commercial engineer.
