Oswald Laurence (??? - 2007) was an actor who is famous for being the voice of "Mind the gap" on the London Underground.

Mind The Gap

In the late 1950s Oswald Laurence became the voice of London Underground’s "Mind the Gap" message.[2] His voice recording was used on the Northern Line for over 40 years before it was removed when the system was digitised.

The last Northern Line station to remove Oswald Laurence‘s voice was embankment station. After a plea from Laurence‘s widow, Laurence‘s voice was digitised and is used on the Northbound platform at embankment station.

Personal Life

In 1992 while working as a tour guide Oswald Laurence met DR Margaret McCollum on a tour to Morocco. They were married in 2003 until his death in 2007.[3]

Death

Oswald Laurence died in North London in 2007.
