Omid Tootoonchi (Persian: امید توتونچی; born 1986) is an Iranian film director and film editor. He has received recognition in Iranian independent cinema, including the Best Editing award at the 29th Tehran International Short Film Festival and a Bronze Award for Best Short Film at the One Earth Awards.[1][2]
Biography
Omid Tootoonchi was born in Tehran, Iran, in 1986. He studied filmmaking at the Iranian Youth Cinema Society, where he attended courses in directing and film editing. Iranian filmmaker Shahram Mokri was among the instructors during this period.[3]
Career
Tootoonchi began his career as a film editor and later directed short narrative and documentary films. His short film The Rain (Baran) received the award for Best Editing at the 29th Tehran International Short Film Festival.[1][4]
In 2014, he wrote, directed, and produced the feature-length film Neurasthenia (Norasteni). The film was screened in Iran through the Art and Experience cinema group, listed in international festival catalogues, and covered by international media in the context of emerging Iranian filmmakers.[5][6]
He also directed the documentary Royaye Messi, which focuses on Iranian children and teenagers pursuing professional football careers and was screened on Iranian documentary platforms.[7]
In 2021, his short film Crumpling received the Bronze Award for Best Short Film (Fiction) at the One Earth Awards.[2]
