Muhammad Omer Nadeem, more commonly known as Omer Nadeem (Urdu: عمر ندیم) is a Pakistani British singer-songwriter, composer, music producer, musical artist and entrepreneur. Nadeem predominantly sings in Urdu and Punjabi, but has also sang in Hindi and English. He launched Pakistan’s first of its kind Console Gaming Lounge ‘Eclectic Vibrations' in DHA, Lahore in 2010.

Early life

Omer Nadeem was born and raised in Lahore, Pakistan into a Muslim family. His father served the Pakistan Armed Forces and retired as Lieutenant Colonel and his mother was a Physics Professor (retired) in Lahore College for Women University. His maternal grandfather Dr. Rafi Muhammad Chaudhry is referred as “the true father of the nuclear weapons program of Pakistan”.

Nadeem always had a musical mind since childhood. He grew up listening and dancing to the tunes of Michael Jackson. He also loved listening to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Junoon (band), and Vital Signs (band).

Nadeem did his schooling from Garrison Academy for Boys, Lahore Cantt and completed his Secondary School Certificate with A+ grade. He then went to Government College University, Lahore and achieved his Higher Secondary School Certificate with A grade. Nadeem completed his BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University, then moved to the United Kingdom in September 2014 and completed his MBA in International Business from Coventry University with Distinction. He then further studied and specialised in the field of accounting and became a qualified Chartered Certified Accountant. He is a member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Career

2001–2004

Omer Nadeem started music in 2001 at the age of 12 with Jal (Band) in the original line-up as the bassist, alongside Atif Aslam and Goher Mumtaz. After Jal separated, Nadeem kept on playing with Atif in live concerts on lead guitar till July 2004.

Nadeem also helped Roxen (Band) in composing new songs and recording guitar for their debut album Rozen-e-Deewar. The album was recorded in Xth Harmonic Studio by Zulfar Jabbar Khan, also known as Xulfi. During this early period, Nadeem played bass guitar for Jal, lead guitar for Atif Aslam and drums for Roxen in live concerts and also sang for his own band, Sifaar.[1]

Nadeem has judged various local singing competitions [2] and has performed in many parts of the world, including in front of a crowd as much as 30,000, alongside successful Pakistani bands such as Strings and Noori. [3] In an Instagram post from March 2021, Nadeem spoke about his experience from that concert:

"I have a little memory to share. There was a concert in 2004 in Islamabad F9 Park. The crowd was massive. The lineup was Jal (Atif - I was on lead guitars at that time), Noori and Strings. We were opening the show. After our performance we were coming down from the stage, Bilal Maqsood and Faisal Kapadia were standing right next to the stairs backstage and were clapping for us. They didn’t know us but still appreciated our performance as young talent. I always ask myself the question “Did they really have to do that?”. It was only a 4-5 seconds of applause by them but had an everlasting impact on me as a musician"

2004: Sifaar

Omer Nadeem formed a band called Sifaar in 2004. They recorded their debut track ‘Hadd Se’ in Digital Fidelity Studios produced by Mekaal Hasan (from Mekaal Hasan Band). Drums were played by Salman Albert from Entity Paradigm. Mekaal’s testimony on the band was:

“Sifaar is band that has a lot of potential and talent. I worked and played with them on their debut single 'Hadd Se' and was very pleased and impressed by their talent and commitment to their work. In fact, I myself jumped at the chance to play on their song because I was struck by their energy and enthusiasm and of course I like the song enough to want to be on it. Their positive attitude and down to earth persona will take them places and it is actually rare to find people who are this young (the singer was 15 when we recorded this song) who are actually good at what they do. If I had to point to a young band with a lot of potential and talent, then I'd pick these guys. In my opinion, if they persist, they will bring in a much-needed breath of fresh air in the stagnant pop and rock scene of our country”.

He further added:

“Sifaar's debut single 'Hadd Se' is a hit single in the making. As the producer / engineer for a massive hit like 'Aadat' I can tell you that if a song like 'Aadat' could be popular then I see no reason why our public will not respond positively to this song. It has all the makings of a hit song, a good singer, a strong and catchy melody, and a polished rock/pop sound that is often found lacking in other bands attempting the same genre of music. In fact, the professionalism of the performances in this song by these teenagers makes it a benchmark for all other young bands to live up to. I hope that 'Hadd Se' finds its deserved popularity and I wish these guys all the success in the world!”

Unfortunately, Sifaar couldn’t sustain for long due to the guitarist of the band having other plans and goals.

2008

After Sifaar band was no longer active, Nadeem took a break from music to focus on his studies and made a comeback in 2008 by releasing his debut single ‘Dil Ka Diya’ as a solo artist. Soon after, he was noticed and approached by the British Asian music producer Khiza[4] who invited him to collaborate on his album ‘Turning Point’[5] which was released by Hi-Tech Music Ltd, Khiza Music and The Orchard (Company).

Nadeem was approached by Zack Knight for the collaboration on the song ‘Kamlee’ from his album ‘I Am Zack Knight’. Nadeem’s hook line composition is inspired by the traditional folk Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan style which Knight thought would suit Nadeem’s voice. Combining the traditional style melody with house music delivered a new sound that was required for the song. It is composed and produced by Zack Knight, written by Omer Nadeem, Zack Knight and Guree.
