About
Omar Alkilani began his musical journey in his homeland before being forced to seek refuge in Turkey due to the wars in Syria.[5][6]
Upon settling in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2015, Omar Alkilani embarked on his professional career as a guitarist. Initially, he started playing in the streets, notably in Istiklal Avenue, one of the busiest streets in Istanbul,[7][8] and later formed a band called "Mood Band" with fellow Syrian refugee musicians, performing together for four consecutive years.[9][10] Omar Alkilani gained fame as a Syrian refugee musician and advocate for the refugee and music causes.[11] [12][13][14][15]
In 2018, Omar Alkilani initiated his own artistic project in Istanbul. He established his own recording studio and engaged in music composition and distribution[2][16], subsequently working on other social art projects[17][18]. One of the notable projects was the series of "Arab Stand-Up Comedy" shows.[19] He also participated in co-writing a book titled "Beyond Istanbul," which narrated the lives of refugee musicians and street performers and the significance of expatriate music.[20][21]
Omar Alkilani gained popularity on YouTube, where his music videos garnered numerous views[22]. He participated in various music festivals and performances and was known for his dedicated audience that accompanied him during his musical shows.[23][24]
Omar Alkilani currently resides in Istanbul, Turkey.
