Olivier Varenne (born 1977) is Director, Acquisitions and Alliances and International Curator at Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

Career

Varenne met Museum of Old and New Art founder David Walsh in 2005 whilst working at Gagosian London. In 2006 Varenne was appointed Curator and Director of Acquisitions at Museum of Old and New Art (Mona)[1]. He has sourced most of the contemporary art in Mona’s general collection and bought and commissioned works from global artists such as Chris Ofili, Richard Wilson, Anselm Kiefer, Ryoji Ikeda and Conrad Shawcross. Varenne has invited Marina Abramovic, Gilbert & George and Toby Ziegler for solo shows at Mona and curates special events and exhibitions for Mona’s annual summer (Mona Foma) and winter (Dark Mofo) Festivals of Music and Art held in Launceston.

In 2018 Varenne launched MONAD Contemporary Art based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Olivier Varenne lives and works in London, Geneva and Australia.
