Olakanmi Rasheed Sarumi (born 3rd November 1966) is a Nigerian businessman and agribusiness executive.[2][4] He is the Group CEO of Saroafrica–SIAT Group, an agro-industrial and consumer goods company with operations in Nigeria and Ghana.[2][1][4] He was one of 31 members selected by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to join the Presidential Economic Coordination Council.[5] He also chairs boards including Alpha African Advisory and the Family Business Advisory Committee at Lagos Business School.[2][6][7][8][9]

Early Life and Education

Olakanmi Rasheed Sarumi was born in Ilesa, Osun State, on November 3, 1966. He attended Government College Ibadan (GCI) from 1978 to 1983. He holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.[1] In 1998, he completed the Advanced Management Programme (AMP 8) at Lagos Business School and also undertook executive courses at Harvard Business School.[2][1]

Career

Rasheed began his career in 1991 by founding Saro Pharma and Chemicals Company Limited, which later became Saro Agrosciences Limited, the flagship company of Saroafrica Group.[2][1] Under his leadership, the group expanded operations in the agribusiness and consumer goods sectors in West Africa. He also oversaw the expansion of Saroafrica’s operations, increasing its manufacturing capacity and extending its reach across African and international markets. In 2024, he led the acquisition of a controlling stake in SIAT Group through Saroafrica’s investment vehicle, Oak and Saffron Limited, thereby expanding Saroafrica’s operations to Belgium, Nigeria, China, Côte d’Ivoire and the United States.[10]

Rasheed has held roles in both private companies and public advisory bodies.[2] He is a member of the Presidential Economic Coordination Council and the Presidential Committee on Food Security Systems, where he has been involved in policy discussions on agriculture and food security.[5][2][11][4] Additionally, Rasheed chairs the Board of Trustees for the Large-scale Cassava and Derivatives Processors in Nigeria.[12] He is currently the Chairman of Alpha African Advisory and the Chairman of Presco Plc, an agro-industrial company focused on oil palm production and processing.[4][13] He is also the chairperson of the Family Business Advisory Committee at Lagos Business School.[2][8] He served as Chairman of the Edo State Oil Palm Programme Agro-Allied Limited from 2021 to 2024, and as President of CropLife Nigeria from 2004 to 2008.[14][15][16] In 2013, He co-founded alongside his wife the Youth Advocacy for Social Change Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) focused on providing underserved Nigerian youths with education, vocational training, and workplace readiness skills.[17][4]

Recognition and Awards

Rasheed has received recognition for his contributions to business and social development, including an induction as a fellow in the Horticultural Society of Nigeria in 2020.[18]
