Okay Djamgouz (Turkish: Okay Camgöz; born December 5, 2001) is a Canadian–Turkish professional basketball player for iLab Basketbol of the Turkish Basketball League. A 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) shooting guard, he played college basketball for the Drake Bulldogs of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC).
Early life and high school career
Djamgouz was born in Mississauga, Ontario, to a family of Turkish and Cypriot descent. Growing up in Canada, he was recognized early for his elite perimeter shooting and basketball IQ. Before college, he was considered one of the top shooters in Canada, ranked as the No. 5 overall Canadian prospect by North Pole Hoops in the 2020 high school class.[1]
College career
Djamgouz enrolled early at Drake University in 2019 after reclassifying from the class of 2020. Over four seasons with the Bulldogs, he developed a reputation as one of the most efficient three-point shooters in the NCAA, finishing his career as a 47% three-point shooter.[2]
During his senior season (2022–23), he served as the Bulldogs’ top perimeter threat off the bench, shooting 52% from three-point range. He recorded a career-high 21 points and six three-pointers against St. Ambrose, and scored 11 points (3 threes) versus Evansville while going 3-for-3 from deep at Murray State.[3]
In the 2021–22 season, Djamgouz appeared in 23 games and led the Bulldogs in three-point percentage (48%). He scored 20 points on 6-of-8 three-point shooting against Purdue Fort Wayne in the College Basketball Invitational. During 2020–21, he appeared in 19 games, scoring a then career-high 12 points versus Saint Ambrose and making multiple three-pointers in several contests.
Professional career
Fenerbahçe Novotel (2024–2025)
On March 5, 2024, Djamgouz signed a 1.5-year contract with Fenerbahçe Novotel of the Turkish Basketball League. His signing marked a notable moment as one of the few Canadian-born players to represent the club professionally.[4]
iLab Basketbol (2025–present)
On August 20, 2025, Djamgouz signed with iLab Basketbol, continuing his career in the Turkish Basketball League.
National team eligibility
Djamgouz holds dual citizenship in Canada and Turkey, making him eligible to represent either nation in international competition.
Playing style
Djamgouz is regarded as a high-level perimeter shooter known for his quick release, off-ball movement, and deep shooting range. His efficient mechanics and rhythm shooting have earned him recognition as one of the most accurate shooters among Canadian prospects of his generation.[1]
Personal life
Off the court, Djamgouz is the founder of the Okay Djamgouz Shooting Academy, a basketball development program based in the Greater Toronto Area, focused on improving shooting mechanics and basketball IQ for young athletes.
