Oak National Academy is an online classroom and resource hub created in response to the closure of schools during the coronavirus pandemic.[1] It was created by groups of teachers, schools and educational organisations. It was announced on Sunday 19th April, and received the backing of the Department for Education.[2] Its principal is Matt Hood, the former Director of the Institute for Teaching.[3]
Purpose
Oak was established in response to the closure of school during the coronavirus pandemic and provides free online lessons and resources to pupils from reception to year 10. [4]
Format
Each week teachers from English state schools provide videoed lessons. Each lesson is an hour long and includes a quiz, a video explanation from the teacher and a worksheet.[5] New lessons are uploaded every week.
Subjects
Lessons at Oak National Academy extend from early years reception (ages 4/5) to year 10 (ages 14/15) and cover the following subjects:[6]

- English (including phonics at EYFS and KS1)

- Foundation (covering History, Geography and Science through a topic-based curriculum)
