History

OKPOP music group was created by a group of friends and a YouTuber called Anthpo after they released a YouTube video called "Can a White Guy Make a K-POP Group?” The group’s prominence grew immediately on TikTok after they started posting videos in March 2023.

Their first video, which was posted on March 29, 2023, attracted over 6.7 million views in a month. The main purpose of the video was to introduce themselves as a non-Korean Korean K-pop..

The group has consistently pulled pranks on the internet. On April 1, 2023, they surprised their TikTok fans with a video of them with tattoos on their bodies with the group's name "OKPOP"; The video attracted over 700,000 views in a day. They later claimed on their page that the tattoos were fake through a satire apology video. The tattoos were a part of their first music video, "TAKE MY HAND", which was released on YouTube on the same day.

They took a temporary hiatus in June 2023, only to come back to surprise fans with a new single and music video for "SAY YOU WANNA GO"[4]

EP release

OKPOP released their first debut EP on Spotify and YouTube on May 5, 2023, which consists of 8 tracks. During the same period, there were speculations that a K-pop group called New Jeans had 'stolen' their album cover. In reality, they group was being satire. The news brought massive attention to OKPOP's TikTok page, which had thousands of comments from fans. However, the group posted another video the following day, apologizing that they were wrong about the false accusations. In the video, they admitted that they were wrong and that their actions were not a representation of who they were. This caught the attention of their fans, as it gathered a total of 1.8 million views in just three days.
