Nvidia Corporation, sometimes known simply as Nvidia, is an American global technology business with headquarters in Santa Clara, California. The firm was formed in the state of Delaware. It is both a software and fabless hardware firm, and it creates graphics processing units (GPUs), application programming interfaces (APIs), and system on a chip units (SoCs) for the mobile computing and automotive markets, respectively. Nvidia is the world's most dominant provider of hardware and software for artificial intelligence. Applications in disciplines like as architecture, engineering and construction, media and entertainment, automotive, scientific research, and industrial design are some of the industries that make use of workstations equipped with GPUs from the company's professional range of products.

In addition to the production of graphics processing units (GPUs), Nvidia also offers an application programming interface (API) known as CUDA. This API enables the development of massively parallel applications that make use of GPUs. They are installed at locations devoted to supercomputing all throughout the globe. More recently, it has entered the mobile computing sector, where it develops Tegra mobile processors for smartphones and tablets as well as automotive navigation and entertainment systems. These products may be found in both the United States and other countries. In addition to AMD, its rivals include businesses that specialise in artificial intelligence accelerators like Graphcore, Intel, and Qualcomm.

Additionally, Nvidia has expanded its presence in the gaming industry with its handheld game consoles Shield Portable, Shield Tablet, and Shield Android TV as well as its cloud gaming service

Nvidia made the announcement on September 13, 2020, that it intends to purchase Arm from SoftBank, subject to regulatory clearance, for a total value of US$40 billion in shares and cash. If the deal goes through, it would be the biggest acquisition of a semiconductor company to date. Nvidia will continue to have its headquarters in Cambridge, and SoftBank Group will buy a share in the company that is little less than 10%.

On February 7, 2022, Nvidia gave notice that it would no longer pursue the purchase of Arm since it was confronted with rising regulatory barriers. At the time of its failure, the transaction was estimated to be worth $66 billion, which would have made it the biggest acquisition in the history of the semiconductor industry.
