Nuremberg
Die Stadt Nuremberg in the German state of Bavaria, Germany, is the second-largest city in the country after the state capital Munich. With 518,370 residents in 2019, it ranks as the 14th-largest city in the country. It is located on the Pegnitz River (from its confluence with the Rednitz in Fürth onwards: Regnitz, a tributary of the River Main) and the Rhine–Main–Danube Canal in the Bavarian administrative region of Middle Franconia. It is the largest city and the unofficial capital of Franconia, and it is also the state capital. In addition to the surrounding cities of Fürth, Erlangen, and Schwabach, Nuremberg forms a continuous conurbation with a total population of 800,376 people (as of 2019). The greater Nuremberg Metropolitan Region has around 3.6 million people. Aproximate distance from Munich is 170 kilometres (110 miles). East Franconian dialect region (colloquially "Franconian"; German: Fränkisch) is the city with the most population in the East Franconian dialect area.
Erlangen-Nürnberg is home to a number of higher education institutions, notably the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, which is the city's most prestigious. There are campuses in Erlangen and Nuremberg, as well as an affiliated hospital (Universitätsklinikum Erlangen) in Erlangen. It is the third-largest university in Bavaria and Germany, with 39,780 students in 2017. Within the city limits, you may find the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm and the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg. Germany's Nuremberg exhibition centre (Messe Nürnberg) is one of the largest convention centre companies in the world, with operations in more than 80 countries. One of the greatest castles in Europe, Nuremberg Castle, with its several towers presides over the city. State Theatre Nuremberg is one of the five state theatres in Bavaria, and it presents operas, operettas, musicals, and ballets (at the Nuremberg Opera House), plays (in the Schauspielhaus Nürnberg), and concerts (main venue: Meistersingerhalle). This opera house's orchestra, the Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg, is the state's second-largest opera orchestra, behind only the Bavarian State Orchestra in Munich, which is home to the Bavarian State Opera. Nuremberg is the birthplace of Albrecht Dürer and Johann Pachelbel, as well as many other notable artists and musicians. 1. FC Nürnberg is the most well-known and successful football club in the city, as well as one of the most successful football clubs in the whole German football landscape. During the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Nuremberg was one of the host cities.
