Norwich is a city and district in the English county of Norfolk, where it serves as the county town. Norwich is situated on the river bank Wensum approximately 100 miles (160 kilometres) north-east of London, 40 miles (64 kilometres) north of Ipswich, and 65 miles (105 kilometres) east of Peterborough. It is the county town of Norfolk. Norwich is the biggest city in East Anglia and the home of the See of Norwich, featuring one of the country's largest mediaeval cathedrals. It is also the county town of Norfolk.

In 2019, the population of the Norwich City Council local authority area was projected to be 143,135 people, with a total population of 213,166 people in the broader built-up region of the city.

Norfolk's mediaeval core includes cobbled streets such as Elm Hill, Timber Hill, and Tombland, ancient buildings such as St Andrew's Hall, half-timbered houses including such Dragon Hall, The Guildhall, and Strangers' Hall, the Art Nouveau of a 1899 Royal Arcade, numerous mediaeval lanes, and the winding River Wensum that flows through the city centre towards Norwich Castle.

Norfolk's capital city, Norwich, was recognised as England's first UNESCO City of Literature in May 2012. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the United Kingdom, and it was named the "happiest city to work in the United Kingdom" by The Guardian in 2016, as well as one of the "best little cities in the world" by The Times Good University Guide in 2013. The Sunday Times named Norwich as one of the "Best Places to Live" in the United Kingdom in each of the years 2018 through 2020.
