Any text or media material that, in good faith, strives to transmit information simply about the actual world, as opposed to being anchored in imagination, is considered to be non-fiction, sometimes known as just "nonfiction." The goal of non-fiction writing is often to convey subjects in a manner that is objective and is supported by historical, scientific, and empirical evidence. On the other hand, several works of non-fiction go into more subjective area, including the author's truly held beliefs on many issues pertaining to the actual world.

Even if some of the claims made in a non-fiction book may turn out to be false in the future, an honest author strives to provide information that is correct when it is written. A non-fiction account is an exercise in authentically depicting a subject, and it should be kept apart from any implicit endorsement in order to avoid confusion.
