Nomi Abadi is an Egyptian-American pianist, a Grammy-nominated composer, and vocalist. She invented the NORY(r) Double Synth keytar and is the founder of the Female Composer Safety League. She currently lives in Los Angeles.

Early Life

A piano prodigy born of five generations of piano teachers, Abadi's musical career began in concert with the Orange County Chamber Orchestra as their youngest soloist ever at age 5, playing a Mozart concerto..[1]. Growing up, Abadi was homeschooled and underwent full-time classical training by her father, former concert and ragtime pianist Marden Abadi. At age 8, she began professional training in classical piano at the Mannes School of Music after also auditioning at Juilliard. She also graduated from the Orange County School of the Arts at age 16 and attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles.

Composing Career

Abadi composes original music for film and video games. Her recent film composing work includes short films such as Gothic Springs (2019), a short film directed by Lindsay Lemez and starring Peyton List [2]. Abadi is also a composer with Velvet Green Music, a record label that produces music for film, television, and commercial use [3].

Her recent video game composing includes original music, sound design and voicing the main character in The Clairvoyant AR, and music for Star Twin Locator both produced by Weird Sisters[4] [5]. After The Clairvoyant AR was featured at the San Diego Game Jam, it was invited via the Playcrafting organization to participate in the Bose Game Jam at the Bose AR Platform at PAX West in 2019 [6]

Abadi additionally has composed and performed her own solo projects since 2012, one of which earned her a Grammy nomination. This work includes five solo EPs. Her vocals are also featured in Satanic Planet’s 2021 self-titled LP release on the track “Devil In Me” [7]. She played piano on the album, Sekou Andrews and the String Theory [8], for which the group received a collective Grammy nomination [9]

NORY(r) Double Synth/Keytar

In 2017, Abadi invented the world’s first double keytar [3]. The NORY Double Synth was approved for a US Patent in 2019 [10].

Abadi received praise for her Omega release from buzzbands.la, who called the song “a lush, cascading pop track built around an acrobatic piano line” [11].

Activism

In 2020, Abadi founded the Female Composer Safety League, which states that its mission is to provide resources, community, support and allyship to women in the music industry. As the founder of FCSL (then called Silence is a Sound), Abadi spoke at the Survivors Becoming Empowered conference held by trauma training organization Echo Training[12]
