Nina Ruiz is a Bronx native author, poet, and former actress [1]. Although her journey in entertainment began on screens and under cameras, Ruiz found her passion among pages and as a writer. In march of 2021, Ruiz released her first poetry and art book Doctor’s Orders.
Early Life and Education
Laura Anastasia Ruiz is a born and raised Bronx, NY native..[1]. She is the daughter of Jose and Carmen Ruiz and is a middle child of five [2]. At a young age, she became an actress, singer, and dancer [3]. She began performing on her first stage in the third grade and even made her first film appearance at the age of 14 [2]. She continued into video, commercial, event, and print opportunities as she explored the entertainment industry [4]. In 2007, Ruiz began studying at The Art Institute for Fashion before focusing on her acting and poetry career [2]
Career
Ruiz’s first film appearance was “Zombiez” when she was 14 [2]. Embracing the entertainment industry, Ruiz became a host and interviewed celebrities, working her way through the industry with acting aspirations [5]. Ruiz made her music video debut in 50 Cent’s “All His Love” [1] in 2013 [2]. Realizing her passion for art as healing for others, Ruiz turned her acting pursuits into dreams of being a writer [6]. Aiming to speak up on depression and trauma, Nina turned to art as a way to create positivity [3]. In March of 2021, Ruiz’s first poetry and art book, Doctor’s Orders, was released.
Personal Life
Being an actress, singer and dancer at a young age led to early personal challenges intrinsic in the entertainment industry [3]. At the age of 18, Ruiz suffered the loss of her mother and was met with grief and depression [7]. Her mother was where Ruiz says to have gotten the ‘creative bug’ as she was always writing and painting [6]. In therapy, Ruiz was recommended journaling but found her own route: painting and poetry. Her background in the arts as well as her mothers inspiration led her to a new purpose in the entertainment field, leading to Ruiz’s recent publication accomplishment [2] [7]
