Niko (NC Enroe) Vilhelm Moilanen (January 17th 1995, Kokkola;) — Finnish musician, vocalist and song writer for band Blind Channel.

Biography

Niko Mailanen was born on January 17th 1995 in Kokkola, Finland. His family moved to Oulu when he was a kid. His mother used to play the piano a lot for the children, so Niko was interested in music since childhood and began to learn from the age of seven. At first he played the piano and only classical music, from his words he hated the frames that set him classical compositions, but it inspired him to create his own music and gave him a lot of experience and knowledge, which he uses now. At school Niko became interested in rap music and started writing first songs for his classmates, but unlike them, Niko preferred to write not in his native language, but in English, which is understandable to most people aroud the world. When he created his first project, as huge fan of the movie Titanic, Niko decided to give it a name related to that movie, so Counting Lifeboats appeared. After forming a band, 14-year-old Moilanen started learn vocals. But as a rapper he was getting more popularity, so he moved Counting Lifeboats into the background and came back to writing raps for his friends.

After a while Niko enrolled to the Madetoja School of Music, where he met Toni Kilpinen and offered him to be a part of his band, the action of which he decided to resume. But in the summer of 2013, at a party, Niko met with that night's DJs: Joonas Porko and Tommi Lalli. During the conversation Joonas told him that the band he and Tommi play in was looking for a rap vocalist and invited Niko to a rehearsal. Coming to the rehearsal just to see who these guys are, Niko agreed to join the band very quickly[1]. Moilanen made lots of changes, first of all he started to write lyrics for the band, that Joel Hokka and Joonas Porko used to do, and secondly he came up with the name and logo of Blind Channel, as well as the band's own genre Violent Pop. At the beginning Niko did only rap parts, but continued to develop and tried to use other techniques, like clean and extreme vocals. At the same time Molanen still worked on Counting Lifeboats, but he didn't devote much time to it, because Blind Channel was gaining more popularity.

After graduating from high school, Niko enrolled at the Pedagogical University as a music teacher, which he successfully completed despite the difficult study during tours. Molanen worked at the Oulu school for a few years, but quit before the pandemic began, because the busyness of the band made it impossible to enter the master's program to finish his studies, also teaching for a big group proved to be quite difficult for him. In August 2020 Niko left Oulu, moving to Espoo (where he lives nowadays), where his girlfriend was offered a job. Here he continued to teach music, privately. Also after the beginning of the pandemic, before the band's decision to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, Niko remembered about Counting Lifeboats and recorded some new singles for this band. Now the main occupation is Blind Channel, the popularity of which has grown quite a lot after Eurovision.
