Nikita Shuhumar ( born 5 February 1999 ) is a media personality; human rights ( especially women's rights & minorities rights ), social justice and violence prevention ( especially gender based violence, intimate partner violence and domestic violence ) activist; motivational speaker, holistic empowerment educator, writer, blogger, global equality advocate, business leader and volunteer.[1][2][3]

Years active

2016 - now Nikita was recognised for her work which covers and cares for 100's of young survivors of violence globally - she specifically works on trauma, healing and reconciliation. She is noted for building community, safe spaces, and legal & other practical guidance. She is also known for initiating violence prevention through entertainment and creative expression based education. Furthermore, her corporate work in the food and beverage export industry was a success, as she led global businesses to pay attention to how they can fight against inequality. [2][4][5]

Education

Nikita is a third year student at the University of Melbourne and alumni of The British School in Colombo. She also took an online course on Leadership ( Governance ) at Harvard University|Harvard University.[6][2]

Career

Nikita pioneered the Humanitarian wing at Seven Seas Holdings Ceylon. It focuses on leading the global food and beverage industry to educate themselves on their contribution to violence & violence prevention; therein take action and grow in responsibility. She also heads a global team of creatives, who partake in empowerment activities through imaginative expression. [5][2]

She also works with Iprobono Equality Law Director & Human Rights Activist Aritha Wickramasinghe focusing on advocacy media. Furthermore she is part of the Youth Technical Advisory Committee of the Family Planning Association, Sri Lanka (FPA) which works on promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights for women.[2]

She uses her Instagram account to empower, educate and support individuals and businesses through entertainment based media. She also writes blogs / articles and speaks about various topics under the umbrella of intersectional feminism and holistic empowerment. She also volunteers with various NGO's such as United Nations Volunteers|United Nations Volunteers Sri Lanka.[2] [5][7]

Early life

Nikita began fighting against gender inequality at 17 years old. She was the only Sri Lankan, female participant to pursue an International Karate Championship in 2016, alongside 25 male participants from the country. She pushed through the gender inequality, and came back home with an award. [8][9]
