Nick Alm(born 1985) is a Swedish painter born in Eksjö, Sweden.[1] He attended the Florence Academy of Art from 2007-2010 while working as a teaching assistant. After graduating from the program he obtained a scholarship to The Hudson River Fellowship. in 2011 he worked alongside artist Odd Nerdrum in Norway and France. Alm has had a successful career with several honors and awards. In 2012 he received the Exceptional Merit Award from The Portrait Society of America. Other notable awards include his first place prize at the Art Renewal Center international salon and the William-Adolphe Bouguereau Award in 2013.[2] In 2017 he obtained The International Arts and Culture Group Art Prize as well as The Purchase Prize at the Art Renewal Center's International Salon. The process behind his work usually starts with a thumbnail sketch that is worked into a full composition. Once he a has a live model he brings the painting to life.[3] His classical training allows him to create masterful works of reflect on the nature of society. Although his works involve are based on contemporary subjects, his treatment of paint and slight deviation from typical realism place his work timeless. Alm currently lives and works in Stockholm.[4]
