Nermin Yıldırım (born 1980)[1] is a Turkish novelist. She has published seven novels and one book with a compilation of her short stories.
Early life and education
Yıldırım was born in Bursa. She studied Journalism at Faculty of Communication Sciences in Anadolu University.[1]
Life and work
Yıldırım's work is known for its exploration of themes related to individual and collective memory. She regularly published short stories in monthly magazine OT from 2013 to 2018, and since then in KAFA Dergi|tr. She published a compilation of short stories in the book Bavula Sığmayan (Not Fitting in a Suitcase) (Hep Kitap, 2022). Her short stories have also been published in a number of anthologies, including Murathan Mungan's Kadınlar Arasında (Amongst Women) (Metis, 2014). Her latest novel, Ev (Home), was published in November 2020.
Her work has been translated into Spanish, English, Italian, Chinese, Serbian, Bulgarian, Arabic, Polish, Azerbaijani, and Macedonian languages.
She has worked as a journalist, editor and columnist for several newspapers and magazines, and as copywriter in advertising agencies.[1]
Awards
She is the recipient of the Dünya 2017 Book of the Year Award[2] with her novel Dokunmadan (Before Making My Mark) and the 2021 Duygu Asena Novel Award[3] with her novel Ev (Home). Her novel Misafir (The Guest) has been selected for the Books at Berlinale programme, run in conjunction with the Frankfurt Book Fair, for adapting into a film based on a literary work for the Berlin International Film Festival.
