Nerissa Mendoza Gerial is a Filipino nurse administrator. In 2019, The Manila Times reported that she was named one of the “Most Influential Filipina Women in the World” by the Global Filipina Women’s Network, an award conferred in Paris, France.[1] In 2021, she was listed by The Manila Times among the “Most Iconic Women of Quezon City”, as recognized by the Quezon City Tourism Department.[2]

She serves as the Deputy Executive Director for Nursing Services at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) in Quezon City, Philippines.[2]

Career

Gerial began her nursing career at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, where she served in clinical roles, including as an operating room nurse, before assuming administrative positions.[2] She later held leadership roles within NKTI’s nursing service, with responsibilities related to clinical programs, specialty training initiatives, and quality improvement activities.[3]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was part of NKTI’s Crisis Management Team, which coordinated institutional response efforts and continuity of kidney care services. The team received the Civil Service Commission Pagasa Award in 2021.[4]

In addition to her administrative work, Gerial has been involved in graduate nursing education. She served as a faculty member of the Master of Arts in Nursing program at the University of the Philippines Open University, as listed in official course offerings.[5]

Recognition

In 2021, Gerial received the Consuelo Gomez Arabit Award from the periOperative Registered Nurses Association of the Philippines (ORNAP), recognizing her contributions to perioperative nursing leadership.[6]

She was also featured in the Filipina Women’s Network’s Sinag magazine as part of its coverage of Filipina leaders recognized through the FWN100 program.[7]

In 2024, Gerial was included as one of the subjects in the book The Extraordinary 85 Women: Quezon City’s Women of Merit & Excellence in Nation-Building, published by the Quezon City Public Library.[8]
