Neneh Ada Yang (born 30th September 1987) better known by her stage name Queennak, is an African independent musical artist, contemporary artist, fashion icon, reality TV personality, humanitarian and activist from Sierra Leone.[2] Ada Yang is a highly acclaimed fashion designer and founder of Queennak Luxury Brand, that produces high-quality shoe line, bags and women’s ensemble that represents a fusion of Chinese and African culture.[3] Ada Yang is also often named as China’s Black First Lady and her contemporary paintings are very popular among the art collectors.[4]

Ada Yang is the founder of Queennak Foundation that serves multiple organizations spread across Africa, China, Europe, and the United States. Ada through Queennak Foundation raises funds to assist the disadvantaged and disempowered people around the world.

Queennak is also an art advisor at the Youth Olympic Games Art Exhibition and The Milan Expo Arts Exhibition. Queennak is a renowned musician and is the recipient of several awards including Best Female Upcoming Musician, Best Artist in the Diaspora, 100 Most Influential Youth, and Youth Ambassador.[5]

Early life and education

Queennak was born in Lunsar City, Sierra Leone, West Africa to Zainab Bangura and Ahmed Adarkwa Koroma. Queennak’s mother was a petty trader and her father was a college principal at the Port Loko Teachers College. She attended Saint Joseph’s secondary school. Queennak was brought up by her stepmother till the age of 17, and then after graduating from high school, she enrolled in The Emibex College of Finance and Management where she pursued a Bachelor’s course in Business Administration.

During her time at college, Queennak participated in numerous activities and was a member of a social club named EMBRIX ROYAL CLUB. It was here that she met Yan Yang, who was her mentor and a renowned calligraphist. Sharing their passion for arts, Queennak and Yang soon got married and moved to China.

From a very young age, Queennak was inclined towards arts and has been contributing her talents in various fields including the music and fashion industry.[6]

Career

Queennak discovered her passion for music when she visited the United States for the very first time. From a very young age, Queennak was inclined towards arts and after her epiphany, she started working towards honing her skills. Queennak has been a pioneer in the arts industry as a whole and has been contributing her talent in various fields including the music and fashion industry.

Queennak started her humanitarian work with the Queennak Foundation that aims at contributing towards national development. This charitable foundation started out working in Sierra Leone. She generates funds for her foundation by selling her contemporary paintings that are highly appreciated amongst collectors. Queennak with her artistic approach reflects a bold expression of her individuality as an artist, musician, and as an advocate for women empowerment. Queennak’s efforts have been recognized by the people all around the world and received recognition and praises form Francis Ben Kelfala, Anti-Corruption Commissioner.

Queennak organized her first painting exhibition in the United States in 2017 in Baltimore. After a hiatus of two years, she organized another event QUEENNAK WALK OF FAME GALA in Los Angeles in 2019.  Her latest event was Queennak’s WHAT'A GUAN ALBUM Pre Release Virtual Party.

Even after marrying Yan Yang and shifting to China, Queennak continued her work as an artist and a humanitarian and was soon appointed as an art advisor at the Youth Olympic Games Art Exhibition and The Milan Expo Arts Exhibition. She soon gained recognition all around China.

Queennak is currently building a school in Sierra Leone to promote free education.[7] Queennak will be launching her 1st Album After the COVID 19 in 2021.

Personal life

Queennak married when she was 23 to her mentor and teacher Yan Yang, a renowned calligraphist who was 58. Soon after she gave birth to a Chinese-African son Prince Yang. Their marriage ended after some time because Yang decided to take up Buddhism, after which Queennak moved back to the United States.
