Nedeljko Grgurevich

Nedeljko Grgurevich (Serbian Cyrillic: Недељко Гргуревић; 1934-2009) was a Serbian Orthodox archpriest and the holder of a number of very responsible church positions on the diocesean and national levels in the Serbian Orthodox Church in North and South America.[1]

Biography

Dr. Nedeljko Grgurevich was born on 6 August 1934 in Foča, Bosnia, then Kingdom of Yugoslavia.[2] Upon completinh his theological studies at the Bogoslovija in Belgrade he spent 15 months in post-graduate studies at the University of Vienna, Austria. He received his doctorate in theology from the Belgrade Theological Faculty in 1965. He susequently taught at the seminaries in Prizren and Belgrade.

He arrived in the United States of America in 1969, and served as the secretary for the Diocese of Eastern America and Canadia. Ordained to the Holy Priesthood in 1971, he served Holy Resurrection Church in Steubenville, Ohio and St. George in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He also served as rector of St. Nicholas in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, from 1977.[3]

Among the many offices and activities, Father Grgurovich was the Episcopal Deputy of the Serbian Orthodox Bishop of Eastern America, a member of the Central Church Council of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the U.S. and Canada and a member of the Orthodox Theological Society of America.

As a writer, Dr. Grgurevich published many works on a variety of subjects. As an educator, he was an associate professor of liturgical theology at the Saint Sava School of Theology in Libertyville, Illinois., where he was also dean; and taught systematic theology at Christ the Saviour Carpatho-Russian Seminary in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

He passed away on 23 July 2009, at the age 74[4]
