Nayef Abu Tayeh is a Jordanian racing driver. In 2025, he became the first Arab driver to qualify for the BMW 318Ti Cup, a European circuit racing championship, and competed in events held in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.[1][2]
Early life and background
Abu Tayeh was born in Amman, Jordan, in 2003, and has family origins in the Al Jafr area of Ma’an. He completed his secondary education at the International Academy in Amman (IAA) and is studying business administration at EU Business School. [1]
Before entering motorsport, Abu Tayeh participated in sports, including horseback riding, skiing, and tennis. He took part in the King Hussein Award for Youth program, which focuses on leadership and community involvement. [1]
At the age of 17, Abu Tayeh purchased and modified his first performance vehicle, a 1992 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, which marked his entry into competitive driving. He later began karting, which formed the basis of his early motorsport training. [1]
Motorsport career
Abu Tayeh began his motorsport career through karting before transitioning into circuit racing. He has described his early passion for cars and motorsport, recalling that films like Fast & Furious shaped his fascination. His early competitions took place in Jordan, including events organized by local racing clubs and the Royal Automobile Club of Jordan. [1]
In 2024, Abu Tayeh began preparing for international competition and trained under Swiss racing coach Rudolf Rhyn to adapt to European racing circuits and competition standards.[3]
In 2025, Abu Tayeh qualified to compete in the BMW 318Ti Cup European championship, becoming the first Arab driver to participate in the series. [4] He competed for the Rosam Motorsport team during the season, in rounds held in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.[5]
In 2026, Abu Tayeh began his racing season in Jordan by participating in the Wadi Al-Qamar Rally.[6][7]
