Nathalia Syam is a British/Indian Filmmaker based in the United Kingdom known for Lehenga (short film) and upcoming British-Indian film, Footprints On Water.

Early life and education

Nathalia Syam was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India and grew up with her elder sister and parents. Her father, Syamlal Thankappan, is a professor in United Kingdom and her mother, Jayasree Syamlal, is an author. Her sister, Neetha Syam, is a script writer [1]. She is the granddaughter of O. Madhavan, a notable Indian theatre director, actor, politician and Vijayakumari, an Indian stage, television and film actress. Actor Mukesh (actor) is her maternal uncle.

Nathalia moved to United Kingdom when she was 12 years old with her parents and sister and continued her schooling there. She later studied films at University of Reading.

Career

After completing her Film Studies, Nathalia has been working in between the British and Indian Film Industries. Her last short film, Lehenga, was nominated for the 'Best of British 2018' award at the BAFTA Qualifying Iris Prize Award in Cardiff [2]. Nathalia has a special interest in creating films that portray distinct characters and themes from around the world where audiences can get the essence of different cultures and social situations.

Nathalia is currently working on her debut feature film, Footprints On Water, a British-Indian film written by Neetha Syam and produced by Mohaan Nadaar, The Production Headquarters UK[3]. This film stars Adil Hussain, Nimisha Sajayan, Antonio Aakeel and Lena (actress) as leads.
