Natasha Porter OBE (born Aug 1983) is founder and CEO of Unlocked Graduates, the leadership development programme which develops leaders to break cycles of reoffending in prisons and beyond.She was appointed OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in 2022 for services to His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service.[1].

Personal life

Natasha was born in London to parents who had emigrated from Australia in the 1970s. She described herself as “kind of an off-the-rails teen”[2] before entering a period of reform in her late teenage years. She went on to study English Literature at the University of Warwick before joining the Teach First graduate programme in 2006.

Natasha is married and has two young children. She lives in London, England.

Career

Natasha qualified as an English teacher through Teach First and taught in Finsbury Park in North London.

In 2009 she co-founded King Solomon Academy[3] which produced its first GCSE results in 2014 and was the seventh highest achieving school in the country [4][5].

As a consequence of the results at King Solomon Academy, Natasha worked as a government adviser and in the Westminster think tank Policy Exchange where she authored reports on all areas of education. Former Prime Minister Rt Hon David Cameron MP referenced her report on Free Schools while announcing an expansion of the policy[6].

Natasha developed the concept for Unlocked Graduates while working with Dame Sally Coates on her government review into prison education[7]. Rt Hon Michael Gove MP described her in a House of Commons debate on prison education as a “formidable social entrepreneur”[8]. David Lammy MP used Unlocked Graduates as an example of excellence in diverse recruitment in The Lammy Review[9].
