Natasha Koifman is a Canadian public relations executive, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. She is the founder and president of NKPR, a North American public relations and marketing agency known for its strategic brand storytelling and philanthropic initiatives. Since its inception in 2002, NKPR has expanded to represent over 40 national and international brands.[1]
Career
Koifman's early professional experience includes roles in journalism in New York City, followed by public relations positions at firms in Toronto, including Liberty Entertainment Group.[2]
In 2002, she launched NKPR with the goal of building an agency that aligned closely with her personal values, focusing on purpose-driven brands and meaningful storytelling. Under her leadership, NKPR has grown to a team of more than 40 employees, offering services such as public relations, social media counsel, and strategic planning[3]. The agency represents a diverse portfolio of high-profile brands across industries including fashion, beauty, lifestyle, consumer goods, real estate, finance, technology, hospitality, and health & wellness.[4][5][6][7]
In 2021, Koifman became the inspiration behind "Natasha The Residences"[8], a 47-storey condominium developed by Lanterra Developments, located at the intersection of Adelaide Street West and John Street in downtown Toronto[9]. Rather than a traditional partnership, the project was conceived as a tribute to Koifman’s distinctive style and professional ethos, making her the first North American publicist to have a residential tower designed in their image. She collaborated with interior design firm Studio Munge to ensure that the building’s interiors reflected her minimalist, modern aesthetic and values of balance, beauty, and purpose.[10][11]
In 2022, Koifman launched ShopNK, an e-commerce platform designed to blend conscious consumerism with curated retail[12]. Developed as an extension of the NKPR brand, ShopNK features limited-edition products in fashion, beauty, entertaining, and art, created through collaborations with both emerging entrepreneurs and established brands[13]. What distinguishes the platform is its philanthropic model: a portion of the proceeds from every purchase is donated to one of five charitable organizations selected by the buyer.[14][15]
Philanthropy
Beyond her work in public relations, Koifman is deeply involved in philanthropy. She played a pivotal role in the establishment of Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ) in 2009 and continues to serve as the President of the Board for APJ Canada and as a member of the Board of Directors for APJ USA.[16] Since its inception, she has co-chaired the annual APJ Festival Gala during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), an event that has become one of the festival's most anticipated[17][18][19]. These galas have raised over $36 million to support education and healthcare initiatives in Haiti[20], including the creation of the Academy for Peace and Justice, which has provided free secondary education to more than 31,000 Haitian children.[21]
Koifman has also been involved with Best Buddies, an organization dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and Dare to Wear Love, a fashion initiative supporting the Stephen Lewis Foundation in its fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa[22].
In 2016, she launched the "26 Acts of Kindness" initiative at NKPR, encouraging team members to engage in charitable acts and fostering a culture of giving within the organization.[23]
Awards and Recognition
Koifman has received multiple accolades throughout her career. In 2012, she was included on BizBash’s list of the 66 Most Innovative Event Professionals.[24]
In 2015, Koifman was named one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network (WXN), receiving the Top 100 Award in the CIBC Entrepreneurs category[25].
She was honored again by WXN in 2017, this time in the CIBC Trailblazers & Trendsetters category, acknowledging her continued impact and innovation in the industry.[26]
Personal Life
Koifman has one son and is married to Eric Hendrikx. The couple’s wedding attracted media attention and was featured in several publications, noted for its distinctive style and design[27][28].
She is known for her all-black wardrobe preference[29][30], which she attributes to a sense of consistency and authenticity in both her personal and professional life.[31]
