Natasha Billson
Natasha Billson is an Archaeologist and Television Presenter.
Career
Billson's love of field excavation led to a career in Rescue archaeology and later television. She notes that it was not an easy journey, taking a year of short-term contracts ranging from two weeks to one month with companies across the UK, before she landed her dream job at an urban-based archaeological company in London. Working in the city has varied from large infrastructure projects to monitoring works on a construction site, and Billson describes it as both a challenging and rewarding experience.[1] [2] [3]
After reading Archaeology BSc (Hons) from Bournemouth University[4] in 2013, Billson had participated in archaeological expeditions to Barbados, Cyprus, Egypt, Germany, Russia and Ukraine. She claims it was these experiences that inspired her love for communicating the past. In 2016, when work started to slow-down in London, she took an Internship with a company specialising in television development and research, and a talent agency. She also started to find work as a native English voice-over artist for a Ukrainian broadcaster, which later transformed into a TV presenter position. In 2019, Billson established a relationship with the Science Channel and Discovery Channel after her appearance on Unexplained and Unexplored. She later worked on Secrets in the Ice,[5] Ancient Unexplained Files[6] [7]and Mysteries From Above.[8] [9]
Billson is an active presence on social media through her social media accounts on Instagram @Tash_Archaeo [10] and YouTube channel Behind the Trowel. [11] During the lockdown, stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, Behind the Trowel broadcasted a live YouTube show called Archaeologists in Quarantine.[12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17]
The Great British Dig
From 2020 Billson has been one of three expert archaeologist presenters on More4 and Channel 4's The Great British Dig[18], along with comic actor Hugh Dennis[19]. The show sees Billson and co-presenters visit local communities across the UK to undertake excavations in back gardens and shared community spaces. Billson [20] featured in all four episodes of Series 1, and all five episodes of Series 2.[21] [22] [23] Recorded a total of 5 episodes for Series 3 of the show, which is airing from 11th April 2022. Billson [24] also features in the accompanying book, The Great British Dig.[25]

Billson is married and lives in West London. She is an active advocate for London Archaeology[26][27] and can be found on Instagram and Twitter as @tash_archaeo
