Professor Nasiru Medugu Idris (Born January 25,1975) is a Professor of Environmental Planning and Management at the Nasarawa State University, Nigeria. He is also the Dean of Faculty, Environmental Sciences and a member of the Nasarawa State University Governing Council.

Early Life and Education

Professor Nasiru Medugu Idris is a Nigerians Professor of Environmental Planning and Management. He attended Capital Primary School Jimeta/Duhu Primary School, both in Adamawa State. After the successful completion of his primary education, he proceeded to Government Secondary School Shuwa/Government Science Secondary School Hong, both in Adamawa State.

He later enrolled at Adamawa State Polytechnic Yola, Adamawa, where he obtained IJMB Certificate in 1996. From there, he secured admission at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi in 1998 where he also obtained a Bachelor's degree (B.Tech Urban and Regional Planning) in 2003. He did his mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Akwa Ibom State between 2003-2004 with Ramstec Services Limited (An Environmental Consulting Firm). Upon completion, he proceeded to the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM Johor) in 2005 for his dual Master's degree in Planning Resource and Environmental Management which was awarded in the year 2007.

In 2010, Professor Idris obtained a Doctor of Philosophy Degree Programme in the same university, where he obtained PhD in Urban and Regional Planning with Environmental Planning as his area of specialization. Professor Idris was also a Research Fellow with Iskandar Malaysia, UTM Research Centre from 2010-2011. Professor Idris was also awarded a Postdoctoral researcher Fellowship Award in 2011 by UTM Research Centre Malaysia.

Career

Back home in Nigeria, Professor Idris was employed by the Nasarawa State University, Keffi in 2011 as Senior Lecturer with the Department of Geography. He was promoted to the Rank of Associate Professor of Geography in October 2013 and full Professor of Geography in October 2016.

Professor Idris has held several administrative responsibilities in the university which include Postgraduate education Coordinator of Geography Programme from 2011-2015, Director, Centre for Environmental Studies CES-NSUK from 2013-2015, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences from 2013-2015, Faculty Postgraduate education at the School of Postgraduate education from June 2014 to March 2017. Professor Idris was appointed pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Science on 30th March 2017 when the Faculty was established and Prof. Idris was further elected as substantive Dean of the Faculty on 21st March 2019. Professor Idris was also elected Member of Governing Council, Representing the Senate of Nasarawa State University Keffi from September 2018 to date. Professor Idris is also an honorary adviser to the Federal Ministry of Environment. Prof. Idris has been a Nigerians Government Party delegate to the Conference of Parties (COP) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) since 2014 to date.

Professor Idris has over 100 publications in National and International Journals and Conference Proceedings. He has also attended several National and International Conferences.

Media Contributions and Publications

Nasiru Idris is a contributive voice in Climate change and Environmental Science[1] related entities in Nigeria, Africa and the global community of climate change and Environmental Science[2]. As an academic, he is also a regular contributor on educational development in Nigeria[3] and beyond for to editorials on reputable tabloids and other academic platforms.
