Nana Akosua Dua Asor Sika Brayie II is the Queen mother (Sunyanihemaa) of the Sunyani Paramouncy.[1]

Early life

Nana Akosua Dua Asor Sika Brayie II is known in private life as Mrs. Bright Faakye Brayie. Her parents are Opanin Kwadwo Donkor, hailing from the Kokofu Akyeremade Bretuo lineage, and Maame Afia Adutwumaah, belonging to the Boahen Korkor Asenie Kodi Adonten family[1]

Reign

Nana Akosua Dua Asor Sika Brayie II ascended to the esteemed position of Sunyanihemaa, assuming the throne after her predecessor, Nana Yaa Nyamaa II, passed away on 1st August, 2019, following a lengthy illness at the Sunyani Regional Hospital. Nana Yaa Nyamaa II had reigned as the Sunyanihemaa (Queen Mother) for an impressive 46 years. In recognition of her new role, Nana Brayie was bestowed with the stool name Nana Akosua Dua Asor Sika Brayie II.[2]

Nana Brayie assumed the esteemed position of Sunyanihemaa on Monday, 2nd August 2021. In a brief ceremony held at the Sunyani old palace, she was publicly introduced by the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawri II. At the age of 61, Nana Brayie gracefully ascended to the revered stool, accepting the responsibilities and duties that accompany her new role

A thanksgiving ceremony took place on 24th July, 2022, at the Living Grace Ministries International, to celebrate and express gratitude for Nana Brayie's elevation to the esteemed position she holds. The gathering acknowledged and appreciated the divine intervention that led to her being entrusted with such a highly regarded and admired role.[3]

Initiative

Nana Brayie kickstarted the first-ever monthly clean-up exercise in Sunyani and its neighboring regions on 12th February, 2023. This notable endeavor, named "Ohemaa Aprapra,"[4] is dedicated to promoting cleanliness throughout the city and inspiring individuals to embrace a hygienic way of life. By aiming to establish a cleaner and healthier environment, the program contributes to Sunyani's reputation as the cleanest city in Ghana, fostering a sense of pride within the community and enabling its inhabitants to thrive.[5] Nana Brayie launched her 5-year development plan for the new Sunyani which demonstrates her visionary agenda to elevate the city and showcase its potential to the wider world. This strategic plan aims to highlight Sunyani's unique qualities and drive progress in various areas of development.[6]

Profession

Nana Brayie has recently retired from a distinguished career in education. She dedicated 36 years to the field, serving as a teacher for 16 years and as a headmistress for 20 years. Her extensive experience and contributions in the educational service have undoubtedly left a lasting impact.[7]

Private life

Nana Brayie, in private life known as Mrs. Bright Faakye Brayie, hails from Sunyani and ascended to the stool at age 61 years. In her personal life, she is married to Mr. Collins Faakye, who originates from Kwahu Nkwatia. Together, they have been blessed with three children: a daughter and two sons.[7]
