Namascar Shaktini, born Margaret Clarice Orr on January 8, 1939 in Atlanta, GA, is an American academic, professor of French and comparative literature who also played an important role in the creation of the MLF while she was carrying out her doctoral research in Paris under the direction of Roland Barthes [1].
Activism
In May 1970, along with Monique and Gille Wittig as well as Marcia Rothenburg, she signed the first text of the French Movement in the monthly L'Idiot international, “Fight for the liberation of women”.[2]
In August 1970 , she participated in the laying of a wreath to the wife of the Unknown Soldier.[3]
Personal life
Married Howard Willis Stephenson in 1958, divorced in 1962. Took the name Namascar Shaktini in Santa Cruz, CA in 1974.
