Naisha is Mumbai-based artist, model[1], actress, writer and DJ.

She is well known for her modelling career[2] and her debut single “Kamikaze” which was released on 10th, December 2021. The song addresses issues of self love and acceptance as a woman of colour in contemporary society.

Early Life

Born to an Indian father and a mother with mixed roots, Naisha was raised in a nomadic household and grew up in multiple places. She moved to Ithaca, New York when she was six months old and her father was finishing his phD from Cornell University. She also spent some time in Odisha, India — her paternal family home — and in Mumbai and Delhi before leaving again to go back to New York City.

Naisha has been writing prose, poetry and music from an early age, stating her parents’ role as a major influence in garnering her artistic freedom, strength and creativity.

Personal Life

Naisha belongs to an academic family, with her mother working in the field of social justice as Head Director of Human Rights Law Network and her father, the former Principal Director in the Ministry of Defence.

Coming from a family which ingrained the importance of music and art and having her roots set in human rights and development, Naisha considers herself an intersectional polemicist who seeks to evoke emotion and resonate with people through her art. Additionally, having worked closely with her mother since childhood Naisha has instilled social values which she tries to incorporate in her art and profession.

Educational Background

Naisha graduated high school at the early age of 15 and subsequently graduated from college with a degree in English Literature before she turned 19. At the time, she was also working in the industry as a model and actress. Naisha continued her education at the Lee Strasberg institution of Film and Theatre in New York City, where she vigorously studied and trained in method acting and musical theatre

Modelling Career

Scouted at the young age of 16, Naisha started to establish her modelling career while working on her Bachelor’s Degree. She was briefly represented by Toabh Talent Management and Anima Creative but her primary representative agency is INEGA.

During the course of her career so far, Naisha has shown adaptability and skill in modelling by partaking in everything ranging from commercial modelling campaigns to editorials. Her versatility is reflected in the diversity of campaigns she’s undertaken, such as Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Levi’s, St. Ives, Masaba, Manish Malhotra, FastTrack, Saritoria and more. Her editorials range from First Look Magazine, to Grazia and Elle, Femina, Rolling Stone and more.

She is also signed to Ford models, a modelling agency in LA — making a name for herself globally as a model.

Music Career

Naisha’s biggest artistic influences are Lauryn Hill, D’Angelo, Aaliyah, SWV, The Delfonics, Nina Simone, Lil Kim, Tupac, Bob Marley — musicians she was exposed to at a very young age by her mother. In her work as a singer-songwriter however, Naisha doesn’t emulate any particular artist; rather her work is a culmination of all her influences so far.

In addition to her career as a vocalist, Naisha is also a DJ that brings great vigour to her crowd, playing a mix of R&B, Afro-beats, Disco, and Funk Hip-Hop.

Film and Acting

Naisha has made a short documentary called 'Sudhakar's Story' based on PLHIV, addressing the stigma and discrimination which was showcased across global spheres in international organizations and meetings. She also made a documentary for the Mosaic community Trust in London, a Trust registered charity working to promote community cohesion and interfaith harmony.

She is passionately committed to uniting communities for equality and empowerment of the socially and economically marginalised and disadvantaged communities to access and influence public services.

In March 2022, Naisha featured in Defjam India’s first music video 'Lost' with the Indian rapper Dino James.
