Nabeel Anjum Malik (born 18 February 1961) is a Canadian-Pakistani businessman, former NCAA athlete, and one of five Pakistani born students to ever attend both Princeton University and Yale University. Nabeel is currently an Executive Director and Acting Chief Executive Officer of Pakistani-based financial Institute, Silk Bank..[1]. Nabeel is one of the world's most accomplished and experienced retail banking senior executives, and during his career, Nabeel has over 30 years of direct line experience in international marketing and financial services which he developed across seven countries in three continents. Nabeel's portfolio includes managing start-ups; transform business models; managing acquisition and divestiture decisions; rejuvenating stagnating growth rates while managing risk for large-scale financial institutes with international implications. revolutionized retail banking Pakistan across the globe. He has been recognized as one of the top 120 retail bankers globally by the Lafferty Group.

Early Life & Education

Nabeel was born in Lahore, Pakistan, and his lineage comes from the Pindori village in Punjab province of Pakistan. He was born to a blind World War II veteran, who he credits much of his success to. He is the youngest of five children, and comes from a military family where he was one of the few not to join the military, pursuing higher education in the United States. He is the cousin of Retired Pakistani General and former head of Military Intelligence of Pakistan|Military Intelligence and Inter-Services Intelligence, General Javed Ashraf Qazi. Nabeel's elder brother, Raheel, also worked as a senior banker, last having served as the Chief Risk Officer for Citi Holdings, and Global Head of Risk Governance at Citi.

Nabeel attended one of Pakistan's most prestigious private school's, Aitchison College, before attending Princeton University (Class of '84) where he earned a BA in Economics, and Yale School of Management, where he earned a MBA (Class of '91). Nabeel played on the Princeton Tigers men's squash team, where he was part of a squad that won two National Championships, as well as placed twice as runners-up[2]. While at Princeton, he was a member of the Ivy Club, the oldest eating club at the University.

Career

Nabeel began his career by working in rural development for the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme in Gilgit, Pakistan, before entering the banking space. He then served in senior management roles for Citi (Pakistan), ABN AMRO (Taiwan & Greece), Citi (United Arab Emirates)[3], Mashreqbank (United Arab Emirates)[4], First City Monument Bank (Nigeria), and Silkbank (Pakistan)[5], where he currently sits as the acting Chief Executive Officer, brought in by the current Finance Minister of Pakistan, Shaukat Tarin, to assist with selling large portfolio's of the bank[6]. Nabeel has a penchant for innovation and change, and this led to him being ranked as one of the World's Top 120 Retail Bankers by the Lafferty Group[7]

Personal Life

Nabeel married Gina Qureshi in 1988, and they have two sons, Sinan and Timur. Nabeel currently resides between Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Karachi, Pakistan.
