Mykal Kilgore is an American R&B artist and actor known for his debut album, A Man Born Black. Kilgore released his inaugural album A Man Born Black on Affective Music on September 6, 2019.
Career
Mykal Kilgore was born and raised in Orlando, Florida, before moving to Nashville, Tennessee as a singer and songwriter after attending Florida State University. His vocal prowess caught the attention of Tony® and GRAMMY® Award winner, Billy Porter, while singing during an audition. Porter's mentorship helped open lanes for Kilgore to move to New York City and enter the Broadway scene.[1] His credits include Motown the Musical, The Wiz Live!, and Hair.[2]
Kilgore is also known for making bold political expressions, becoming a viral sensation for his gospel-themed song "Reclaiming My Time" based on the statement made by Congresswoman Maxine Waters.
With the release of his debut album A Man Born Black, Kilgore stepped into the limelight to share his unique view of the world. The album debuted at #2 on the iTunes R&B charts and on five different Billboard charts.[3] In 2020, Mykal received an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding New Artist.[4]
