Otunba Musiliu Raji (born Musiliu Adetunji Raji, 15 November1966) Retired Navy, businessman, administrator and philanthropist. The fifth in a family of eight (6 boys and 2 girls) to Alhaja Muibat Akanke and Alhaji Busari Atanda Raji.
Early Life and education
Raji was born in Lagos Mainland, Lagos State to a business and working class family during the Biafra episode in Nigerian history. His mother was a successful trader in home goods while his father was the then General Manager of UAC of Nigeria. He attended Ansar Ud-Deen Grammar School, Surulere (1980-1984); Yaba College of Technology (1986-1988.) After graduation in 1988, he joined the Nigerian Navy, serving 5 years on active duty and another seven years in Navy Accounts and Budget.
Career in early years
Raji served in the Nigerian Navy during the Liberia Civil War under The Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG), largely supported by personnel and resources of the Nigerian Armed Forces, with sub-battalion strength units, was a West African multilateral armed force established by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
His training and experience in the military not only prepared him in executing missions but also played a significant role in his transition into the civilian workplace. Soon after retirement and graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, he took his military experience to the private sector. He says about his experience, “It’s not easy to tell you exactly what qualities and virtues you must have to be a successful businessperson, but perhaps you can understand better what is meant by a “soldier’s character” if you consider some of the qualities that all of our good soldiers have had. These qualities include honesty, courage, self-control, decency, and conviction of purpose. This is by no means a complete list, but those are the qualities that most good soldiers possess and can be applicable to every aspect of life.”[1] In 1999, he founded Tee & Bee Ventures,[2] a telecommunications company and one of the pioneers of the Global System for Communication (GSM) in 2001 that made an inroad into Nigeria, with the arrival of Zimbabwean telecommunications company, Econet (now Airtel), and MTN from South Africa.
“Nigerians would continue to commend the laudable efforts of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whose administration brought GSM to Nigeria in 2001 which extended economic opportunities to companies like mine and provided employment opportunities at the time,” he adds. Trailblazing efforts of telecom companies like Tee & Bee Ventures thus paved the way for today’s top companies like MTN, Globalcom Mobile, Airtel, Smile Nigeria and many more.
As a member of the World Trade Center in Nigeria, Raji was part of the trade team led by the Nigerian U.S. Consulate General to the 2001 NASDA/FMI supermarket convention held at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. Part of the overall objectives of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Nigeria was to support the sales expansion of U.S. food products in the Nigerian and West African market.
Career in later years
Raji took his entrepreneurial skills and experience to the United States in 2001. Over the years, he ventured into several businesses operating house cleaning and maid services, selling used cars, while he worked a day job. Over the years, he began buying of goods and services from small companies as well as multinational technology from companies specializing in e-commerce, retail, Internet, and technology at discounted rates below what other retailers charged and placing them in the hands of average consumers. From telecommunication to retail and now healthcare, Raji founded Bidets Care[3] in 2019 in the state of Indiana because he saw first-hand, the experience of family members for their loved ones and understood the need for senior care that is professional, compassionate, and comprehensive. Also, as a veteran, he saw too many of our Seniors and fellow Veterans struggling with the complexity of both healthcare and Veterans Benefits Administration|VA benefits. It was clear that someone needed to address the deficiencies in this industry and provide a trustworthy and professional level of care to senior citizens. Together with his wife, as co-founder, Raji set out to create an organization that would fulfill those needs.
