Murasoli Maran Park (Tamil: முரசொலி மாறன் பூங்கா) is an Urban Park in Perambur neighbourhood in Chennai district, Tamil Nadu, India. The park is one of the most important public spaces in North Chennai that attracts a large number of residents.

Murasoli Maran Park is located in the working- class industrial area of Perambur. Residential areas do not have sufficient space for Children to play. Parks have been providing lung space for residents of crowded locality. Families are flocking to facilities such as Murasoli Maran Park. Children get a chance to run around and play. Murasoli Maran Park offers the space that people have longed for several years. It is a better place to relax. Youngsters come and play badminton. Senior citizens choose this park to morning and evening walks and mild physical exercises. Part- time traders sell snacks, toys, etc. outside the park.

Murasoli Maran Park is equipped with see-saws, swings, sliding boards that make the children happy to play with.[1] Some gymnastic equipment here make teens to work out. The park has a lot of plants that provide ample oxygen for people to breathe and that the blooming flowers make a pleasant feeling. Vertical gardens are on the process of establishment beneath the Perambur flyover nearby and that too is going to help the visitors of the park.[2]

There is a project to establish Perambur metro station, nearby the Murasoli Maran Park, which is a second phase of Chennai Metro Rail Project, (of an area 8,473 sq.m) and Ayanavaram metro station, which also will be a neighbourhood metro station to Murasoli Maran Park. For this project, CMRL (Chennai Metro RailProject Limited) requested Greater Chennai Corporation to provide required area from Murasoli Maran Park to facilitate the process. The Greater Chennai Corporation is to demolish Amma Canteen and one of its offices (42 sq.m out of 46 sq.m) to provide space for the above mentioned project.[3][4]

Location

Murasoli Maran Park is situated beneath the Perambur Flyover. It has two separate utility areas viz.,

  1. Perambur Murasoli Maran Park (North).
  2. Perambur Murasoli Maran Park (South).

In between these two, ply Paper Mills road, Perambur High road (North) and Perambur High road (South). And also the Chennai - Perambur - Arakkonam railway tracks lie at the middle of these two Park segments. Murasoli Maran Park is situated in Perambur, Chennai at an elevation of 10 m (32.81 ft.) above mean sea level. The Park is situated in Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar Zone (Zone number 6) of Greater Chennai Corporation.[5]

Murasoli Maran Park is bounded in the direction of Northwest by Peravallur, North by Siruvallur, Northeast by Vyasarpadi, West by St. Joseph's Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School, East by Vyasarpadi, Southwest by Perambur Carriage Works railway station, South by Ayanavaram Bus Terminus and Southeast by Perambur railway station.

Beneficial neighbourhoods

Perambur, Vyasarpadi, Ayanavaram, Sembium, Siruvallur, Agaram, Peravallur, Moolakadai, Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, Periyar Nagar, (Kolathur, Chennai) and Ponniammanmedu are some of the important neighborhoods benefited by the park. Bunder Garden (Perambur), Neelam Garden, Gopal Colony, Jagannathan Colony and Amrithammal Colony are some of the important subneighborhoods benefited by the park. Murasoli Maran Park lies at the main place of Perambur, Chennai and is well connected to all places of Chennai and other parts of the state of Tamil Nadu and other states by Road transport services and Railway transport Services. Metropolitan Transport Corporation of Chennai district, operates a lot of Buses via. Murasoli Maran Park. Connected roads to the park are Paper Mills road, Perambur High road (North), Perambur High road (South), Madhavaram High road, Tank Link road, Bunder Garden streets and Siruvallur High road. The nearby railway station is: Perambur railway station, where most of the Express trains stop for a while for the passengers to entertain or detrain.[6] Other important railway stations near to the Park are Perambur Carriage Works railway station; Perambur Loco Works railway station; Vyasarpadi Jeeva railway station; Villivakkam railway station; Basin Bridge railway station; Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M. G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station, an interstate connected railway station and Chennai Egmore railway station, an intercity connected railway station.

Nearby attractions

Some of the important temples near to the park are: Shri Venugopalaswamy Temple; Shri Naramuga Vinayagar Temple (beneath Perambur Flyover); Shri Venkatesa Perumal Temple; Shri Ayyappan Temple, (Perambur) and Shri Palani Andavar Temple.[7] South India Buddha Vihar is a Buddhist temple nearer to the park.[8] One of the famous Roman Catholic church near to the park is 120 year old Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine, Perambur.[9]

Educational institutions such as St. Joseph's Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School (for Girls), Railway Mixed Higher Secondary School, Don Bosco Nursery and Primary School, St. John's Nursery and Primary School, Savio Primary School and DRBCCC Higher Secondary School are near to the park. Medical facilities such as A. C. Aruldas Hospital and Sen Hospital are nearer to the park. Other attractions nearby the park are: Mahatma Gandhi Park and Venus Park.
