Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, OON (born 10 April 1967 in Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria), sometimes known by her middle name Farida, is a Nigerian public administrator and entrepreneur. She served as Chairperson of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) from 2020 to 2025. Dankaka has also held leadership roles in business and commerce, including as President of the Kaduna State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KADCCIMA).
Early life and education
Dankaka studied business and management at Kaduna Polytechnic and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.[1]
Career
Before her appointment to the FCC, Dankaka worked in the private and financial sectors. She was employed by Unic Insurance Plc between 1981 and 1982 and later joined Continental Merchant Bank, Kano, where she served from 1989 to 1995, including her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year.[2]
She established several businesses, including Farida Business Ventures Ltd (founded in 1995), Danfa Special Rice Factory Ltd in Mando, Kaduna (founded in 2019), and Heebah Airlines (in progress). She also serves as Director of Ijehu Oil and Gas Limited, based in Kaduna State.[3]
Federal Character Commission
Dankaka was appointed Chairperson of the FCC in 2020.[4] During her tenure, the Commission introduced several reforms:
- Establishment of a Monitoring and Compliance Department to oversee recruitment and representation standards.[5]
- Introduction of digital systems for records management.[6]
Controversies
In 2023, the House of Representatives investigated allegations of job racketeering across agencies including the FCC. During the hearings, a former staff member alleged that recruitment payments were made to intermediaries in the Commission.[7] Dankaka denied the allegations and stated that they were politically motivated. No official report or court ruling found her guilty of misconduct.[8]
Honours and recognition
Dankaka has received several awards for leadership and public service, including:
- Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) – conferred in 2012 by the President of Nigeria.[9]
- National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) – awarded in 2020 for contributions to national development.[10]
- Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Pacific Western University, USA.
- Distinguished Service Merit Award – 2007.
- Africa International Achievers Merit Award for Excellence – 2007.
- Matron, Nigeria Youths Organization – 2007.
- Northern Nigeria Women Merit Award – 2005.
- Traditional title of Erelu of Offa, Kwara State.[11]
