Moogajjana Koli is a 2023 Indian movie, the first movie made in Arebhashe, the dialect of Kannada spoken by the Gowda & other Communities residing in and around Sullia Taluk of Dakshina Kannada, and Coorg District of Karnataka State.

The film is produced by K.Suresh under the banner of NammaKanasu Productions, and Directed by Santosh Mada, who won the 68th National Film Award 2022 for his debut Tulu movie Jeetige. The script and the dialogues were written by Ramesh Shettigar based on the concept of Vineesh Vattamkulath. The movie revolves around a young girl Kanasu and her interaction with Moogajja, an insensible oldman, and his hen and roosters.

The leading actor Naveen D Padil played the role of the Old-man, Moogajja, and baby Gaurika Deepulal has played the role of Kanasu which got her the “Best Child Artist [Female]” Award in the UFMG 2023 Goa International Film Festival.

Plot

Kanasu the seven-year-old girl along with her mother moved from Gulf to their native in Sullia. As the village environment is new to Kanasu, she keeps asking questions about everything. Near their house, in a small home, where lived Govinda, a seventy-plus, poker-faced person who has a bad image in the village as he does not interact with anyone. So, he was called Moogajja means “deaf old man”. But Kanasu firmly believes that He is a good man as he takes good care of the rooster flock.

Kanasu develops a curiosity about Moogajja’s daily activities and tried to interact with him. She also tried to befriend the roosters and hens. She goes around the village with other children and enjoys the village environment. In between in an incident, she attacks a hen and due to the guilty of killing it, she gets a fever. Meanwhile, due to the chicken fever rumour in the village, Govinda faces problems. Kanasu wants to tell the truth to Govinda. But children keep her away from Govinda. But she firmly believes that Govinda is a good man and will not harm her if she tells the truth.
