Motherly is a media company focused on issues related to motherhood, parenting, and maternal health.[1] The company was founded by Jill Koziol and Liz Tenety in 2015.[2] Motherly is known for its Annual State of Motherhood Report.[3]

History

Motherly was launched by Jill Koziol and Liz Tenety in 2015.[4][5] The company raised $1.25 million in initial seed funding in April 2017. In April 2020 it closed a Series A funding round of $5.4 million led by 8VC with participation from Founders Fund, Muse Capital, AET, and AmplifyHer Ventures.[6]

In 2020, Koziol and Tenety published a book, The Motherly Guide to Becoming Mama, from Sounds True Publishing.[2][7]

Since 2018, Motherly has polled thousands of mothers in the US to gather their opinions on what is working and not working in American motherhood. The company publishes their findings in the Annual State of Motherhood Report.[8][9]

The podcast won two 2021 Webby Awards in the Best Individual Episode - People’s Voice Winner category for an episode featuring Kristen Bell[10] and in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (Individual Episode) category for an episode featuring Caterina Scorsone.[11]
