Moss Kena is a British singer-songwriter, born in London (England) in the late 1990's. Kena is currently signed on a record deal with Sony Music entertainment.[1] In an interview with MTV, Kena describes his music style as "Soulful, new and honest"[2].

Early Life

Moss Kena grew up in London, the son of a record shop owner. At 5 years old, Kena recalls an obsession with Elvis Presley as one of his earliest memories of music as a child. Kena grew up listening to a lot of soul music artists such as Michael Jackson, Donnie Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Etta James, all of which influence the music he makes today.[2]

He left school at age 15 and began performing as a singer-songwriter in coffee shops and malls. Significantly influenced by Amy Winehouse, Moss Kena's musical career began with a cover of Kendrick Lamar's song 'These Walls' from the album 'To Pimp a Butterfly', which also caught the rapper's attention.[3]

In 2019 he was asked to accompany Rita Ora on her UK tour[4] and subsequently released the track You and Me together with Miraa May, and the rapper Buddy via Ministry of Sound. In the same year he sold out Camden Assembly and released the single Begging, which was produced by Mark Crew, Dan Smith (Bastille) and Dan Priddy.

His breakthrough came when he featured on the song 'Fireworks' by Purple Disco Machine feat. The Knocks.[5][6]

Touring

Moss Kena's headline tour was first announced in 2019[7], and featured stops in Manchester (The Eagle Inn) on December 8th, Leeds (Headrow House) on December 9th, Glasgow (The Garage) on December 10th, before finishing the tour with a show in England's capital city, London at The Courtyard on December 12th[8].

As of yet his 2nd tour has not been announced.

Artwork

Ministry of Sound asked creative director Steve Spacey to create a series of single covers and an album for Moss Kena. Steve came up with the idea of slowly unveiling Moss’s face with each new release, starting with it almost totally obscured on the first single, and then finally unveiled on the album cover.[9]
